Well I have never heard it in baseball terms before but that makes a lot of sense. I do know that if the dealer is showing like a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 only one person at the table needs to take 1 hit and 1 hit only if they take more than one hit then the dealer will not bust. We play so that the lowest hand takes the hit and hopefully not bust and it works every time. The dealer busts.
If more than 1 player takes the hit then you know that person is ignorant about the game of blackjack and we usually change tables.
