Interesting comment on the progressives. That is the one type of machine I steer clear of. The payouts on progressives are generally less frequent (so some of each bet can go toward the progressive jackpot.
I agree, they must, in general, be popular ... but there are so many on the casino floor these days ... I see a spot empty on half of them.
The low denomination games are popular because they compress the winning into fewer spins. For example, if a machine has 100 lines ... this is equal to 100 pulls of a reel on a 1-line machine. All the winning "goodness" is concentrated. Most of those machines hit something at least 30 to 60% of the time. I understand why people like them ... I do not understand how the casinos get away with a lower payback percentage on them. They swallow my money like quarter machines --- and I don't even get back the return as often.
