first, i just want to say that i so much enjoy reading this forum. i love everybody's stories, about the wins and the losses, and all the different theories about how to play.

yesterday was my second trip to our closest casino, Hollywood, in grantville, PA. the first time, DH and I went. yesterday, i took my mom. her first time.

so, we each had $20 dollars that we were willing to spend on this excursion, and this is what happened...

it wasn't busy hardly, and we went to the buffet first to eat. they're always advertising on the radio about this Epic Buffet place. well, it was $12.99, plus tax, per person, which is about what you'll pay at one of the local eateries/diners around here. we each left a dollar for the server. so, that left us each $5 bucks to play.

my mom wanted to play a penny progressive slot, grand prize $23,000.00, but i told her that unless you played the "max bet", which would have amounted to something like $2.50 a spin, you didn't have a chance at the jackpot. [i learned all about that pitfall to winning big from reading here].

so, she played anyway, 9 lines, for 1 bet, and believe it or not, she got her $5 up to $7, but then when it got down to below $5, i showed her how to cash out the ticket.

we then wandered some more. i was looking for the white orchid machines that i played the first time we went to the casino, but couldn't find them.

[why don't they have a directory, like at the malls, for what and where all the machines are located?????]

i played the survivor game, nada. cashed out.

saw the wizard of oz machines, all booked, no one looked like they were leaving.

my mom picked a game to play right behind WOZ, can't remember what it was, and i sat down at a reels of irish??? game. put in my ticket. it was a penny machine, 9 lines, i believe. i bet 1.

on my second spin, I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, but i got some bonus thing where the machine spinned free for me 15 TIMES. there was music and noises and flashing lights. my mom came over, [her money gone], and we just watched this machine doing it's thing.

nothing changed in the win led window while the reels were going, but after the spins it started going up and up and up, all the way to 9,700 points, or something. and then it started converting the points to money. i'm frantically trying to do math in my head. can't think straight. remember my callphone has a calculator on it, so i was trying to calculate what it was going to ultimately be. gave that up, because i wanted to watch the light show and numbers on the machine.

I WON $97 dollars!!!!!!!!

at that point, i felt like i could really "gamble", so i hit the max bet button. i learned a very valuable lesson then, to never hit max bet unless you've done the math. that bet cost me $6 bucks, or maybe it was $6.50. it didn't pay anything.

i cashed out my ticket went to the cashier and got my $91.00 and we hightailed it out of there.

i had different feelings about the money after i got the cash. on one hand, i felt like i could indulge myself and play without a guilty conscience all the games i'd previously walked by. on the other hand, i felt like i should get out while the getting was good, and that's when we decided to leave. and also, because we didn't want to be caught in rush-hour traffic on the expressway going home.

if you've read all this, thank you for indulging me in my telling of my trip to the casino yesterday.

Congrats!

Mathematically, that payoff was an ABSOLUTELY HUGE jackpot.

.09 cents for 97.00 dollars is a dream win margin!

I think going to the casino should be about having a good time, and hey....making 90 bucks for betting 9 cents sure ain't bad!

great win and (thats the secret) coming home having had a nice meal, entertainment for 3, $$20 x3, gas for the car...and your still have about $30...thats like working 4 hours minimum wage after taxes...I have a clever husband and another friend that could do that all the time....I on the other hand...am not a smart player...I tend to aim for break even and am always chasing wins... thats for sharing you gopod story..

exe,
now i'm wondering, i can't remember what the max bet multiplier would have been, but if i had max bet and it was 10, then that would have paid almost $1,000.00???

but gheeez-louise, it was a penny machine for crying out loud. it almost makes you feel like you're set up to lose...

$6.50 max bet for a chance to win $1,000.00? but how often is that likely to happen?

plus, you're $20 bucks would be gone in 3 spins, if you didn't win anything.

[rhetorical question: does anybody else think this stuff is SO RIGGED????]

Hollywood is the casino we frequent also. I'm surprised you didn't see the White Orchid machines. My favorite ones aren't too far from the Spinning Streak (Survival) games. Walking toward Oz they're on the left right next to 2 Hexbreaker games. Then close to the Irish game you were playing there's a bank of 3 of them clustered together. That game does have a max bet of 6.00, I've played it before. Actually, I played a version of it called Easy Money and fortunately for me that day, it was exactly that! I came away with over $300 after hitting the free spins a couple times! I was betting 1.50,3.00 and then when I saw the game was HOT, I increased my bet to the max. It did pay off and yes that machine has the potential to pay off in the thousands! It's just a matter of catching a good bonus at the right time with the right bet! We're hoping to go tomorrow morning with our Pap. Plans aren't definite yet, but you can bet we'll be at the White Orchid machines! I agree, there definitely should be a directory! I wonder if it isn't because the machines get changed so often. Next time you go, check out the new games called Griffin's Gate and Palace of Riches III. Very popular and hard to get on, but they draw a lot of attention from bystanders!;)

No I do not think that they are rigged but since you are new to this (I think you are unless I have misread your post) the payback percentages on pennies is the lowest there is as far as machines go. As you increase the denom on the games (not your bet, just the denomination) the better the payback percentages are. So if you are ever going to bet $5 a spin on a penny machine, you are better off going to a $5 machine and playing there. Same cost but a higher percentage of winning.

Still, you did great though and it sure does feel good doesn't it???? Love the feeling of getting ahead in the casino! Good luck next time!

no, you didn't misread my post, i've only ever been twice to a casino, and both times to hollywood.

i'm so not a math person, but i enjoy these games, but trying to understand the math makes me see how the penny slots are anything but!
