WMS has a site for these games.
It's a fun little interactive site.

Hi Joey:

It's clever marketting ... and a great way to target a younger audience. Slots have traditionally been for the grey hair generation.

Seems like most slots these days are more like video games, and it's the main reason I got hooked. When I try the traditional 3 reeled classics, I always get bored. At most I will play the WMS three reel, they are at least entertaining to me.

We used to call them "blue hairs", because it was mainly little old ladies who put various shades of purple to violet rinses in their gray hair. Now we have to include the older men who use hair dye, and call the whole lot of them "orange hairs".

But, you're right. Even though slots have mainly appealed to more "seasoned" folks, it's quite obvious "we" aren't really valued customers anymore. The industry couldn't care less about our demographic. We'll be dead and gone, so they've turned their gimlet corporate eye to capturing the "vid-gen" demographic: late teens and twenty-somethings, raised from infancy on thousands of hours of what are (basically) high-tech, interactive cartoons.

We've long used the term 'q tips'. It started back when we lived in Sedona and there are 5 million tourists a year because of the red rock formations. They are driving down a highway with a speed limit of 55 and they suddenly hit the brakes (forgetting they are on a highway) 'oh look martha, pretty red rocks'.

As to demographic, we totally agree with your statement. In fact, last night we were watching a movie and apparently this network gears the ads to the over 60 demographic. DH and I realized we have been demogrified! You are right in the late teens, twenty somethings. Not much for for 40's and 50's!

Hi Kalikynos:

re: Even though slots have mainly appealed to more "seasoned" folks, it's quite obvious "we" aren't really valued customers anymore.

Well ... I'm not going to shed a tear yet ... 90% of the slots on the slots on the slot floor cater to the baby boomers and older. At one time, the slot companies could sell more machines simply through the casino boom. New casinos had to fill their floor with machines.

Now, there are not that many new casinos, so the manufacturers have to give the casinos reasons to buy their product. One way is to expand the market -- attract people who play slots who would not normally play slots. It's important to have slots that would appeal to a younger generation.

Well I can only speak for my area. The original 3 reel slot machines are still heavy on our floors. Even with all of the amazing WMS video games hitting the floor, they are still making 3 reels with some fun features built in. I just played them, sitting right next to the "blue hairs". They like 'em as well. Especially the new Monopoly Grand Hotel Big Event.
