Living in California we are lucky to get to go to Las Vegas pretty often. Direct flight less than 1 hour! We went on Allegiant, pretty good fare of $25 each way. Allegiant can sometimes not be on time but what the heck for that price I will gamble, isn’t that why I am going to LV anyway. They were on time coming and going to the minute!
I don’t care how many times I go to Vegas, flying in is so exciting, seeing the strip as you land.
We had comped rooms at Paris, which is where we stayed at our last trip. I really like this casino, the rooms, and the location. Check is was fast only two people ahead of us (this was around 5:30 pm). We didn’t ask for an upgrade but the clerk said, I am giving you an upgrade, I like to do that when available. 27th floor! Not a great view, not a terrible view. The room was clean, fresh, and everything worked. We had a flat screen TV, and A COFFEE MAKER!!! It was the one cup at a time kind but I don’t care I need that cup first thing and the one cup at a time are prone to be cleaner.
OK we are off to a good start…maybe. DH (dang husband in this case) had a strained ankle and couldn’t walk very well only short distance then had to sit down, preferably at a slot machine. We usually walk a lot in Vegas but this trip we were limited. We took taxis everywhere, even if we were heading to a close casino. The drivers would ask twice where we are going because it was so close. Along with that LV had a cold spell and wind, wind, wind. We hobble to the Miracle Mile to get a bottle of vodka and snacks for the room. Need food to take with the pain pills. OK now we are set.
We wanted to see Jersey Boys, but I didn’t book ahead due to DH’s ankle, in case, but we decided Tuesday we wanted to go. Taxi to the Palazzo to get tickets (they did have tix at the ½ booth but the line was realllllly long, so we decided let’s just go to the box office and be done with it. While we were looking at the seating chart the clerk would show us seats and we would say OK, then bam they were taken, so we ended up in the balcony for the 9:30 show. I had heard that the 9:30 show isn’t always full and you can sometimes move down, not tonight it was completely full. This was a lot of steps for the ankle who is too macho to take the elevator but we made it. The theater has good views everywhere so if you end up in the balcony it is OK, you will still enjoy the show. This is a must see in Vegas if you haven’t seen it elsewhere. So glad we made it to the show. We gambled at the Palazzo for a while, it was the tightest casino we visited this trip, but the ambience is great. Very open feel, lots of CW’s. DH orders martini’s and they had the biggest olives of any casino. They do pump out that Venetian perfumy (is that a word?) smell though. So many people have commented on this you would think they would find something else to fill the air with.
I must add after we picked up the tickets we had lunch at the Grand Lux. I loved this restaurant! It reminds me of a restaurant in San Francisco or New York. Great service and the menu is very extensive. I had the grilled patty melt. It was on the most wonderful bread, a garlic cheese sour dough. Very large patty with grilled onions, green pepper and a lot of cheese. It was served with wonderful fries. It was so large but I kept eating because each bit exploded with such flavor! DH had the pastrami and it was great too. The pastrami was very lean and melted in your mouth. Tax and tip around $30.
We hobbled around to a few other casinos and gambled a bit, had good results at Bally’s and Harrah’s. Remember the aroma at the Flamingo, they have changed it to a tropical coconut type of aroma, this was an improvement, why don’t the Venetian and the Palazzo get it?
I got ½ price tickets on Goldstar for Human Nature. We have used Goldstar before and were always happy with their service. It eliminates the standing in the long Tix4Tonight line if they have a show you want to see, just pick up your tickets before the show. What a show! These guys are so full of energy and talent. They are so likeable and down to earth. They are all over the stage, in the audience on the tables and non stop. They have beautiful voices and stage presence. The audience was standing, dancing, and singing before the end. I would definitely recommend this show.
We took the shuttle from Paris to spend a few hours at Rio. We had comp for the World Buffet and wanted to give it a try. We had eaten there years ago and it was great…well it is OK but I am glad it was comp. There is a lot a variety of food, it seemed fresh and stuff but I would give it a C+.
My final observations would be: we were expecting it to be kind of quiet in Vegas compared to some of our other trips, but we thought it was pretty crowded. People were at the tables and playing the machines. It was a great trip except for the ankle and the wind. We will need to go back soon as there was so much more to do, so many show, so many restaurants, so many machines to experience.
;)
