The old rule of thumb is that higher denominations had a higher payout percentage. On many games the payout distribution increases moderately for the lower pays but the top awards pretty much remain the same. Small pays keep me interested longer. Ie 3 coins in 2 out.
Many casinos used to put their loosest machines by the doors - the intent was to attract more customers. Of course the volume was always cranked on them too so most people would move more indoors away from the traffic and noise. Machines with progressives typically have lower payback percentages as a certain % of each coin is added to the progressive amount.. Over all the presence of a progressive doesn't impact how the machine does or does not pay out. In a couple of these sentances I used the words "used to"... The new slots which are often designated as penny machines often take multiple coins per line and have multi-lines. Ie 20 coins on 50 lines at even a penny is now $10.00 per spin. Ouch. If it wasn't for the many small pays that you hit a $50 would last you 5 spins and all of 3 min. I personally like the old 3 reel (not 5 reel) 3 or 5 coin multi-line slots. Ie 5 line Double Diamond Deluxe with a $1.00 denomination and a progressive. |

Yes but when you do hit something.......you don't get the pay. Everyone knows that slots are the worst form of gambling. I personally love them. Without going into a long mathmatical discussion........the facts are.......to win at slots..... you must first be lucky......and second.....you need to play the max coins every spin. If playing the max is too expensive.....go to a lower denomination machine. Some games will not even pay you when hit the Upper award and only play 1 coin. Sizzling 7's is a perfect example. It known as a 3-coin "Buy-A-Pay" game. If you play only one coin and happen to hit Sizzling 7, Sizzling 7, Sizzling 7 you don't win a thing.

I think we can all agree that slot machines are designed to do one thing. TAKE YOUR MONEY! and they do this well! I too know this but I also love playing them. So......what can we do to help increase our odds? Each and every slot machine is unique in the sense......it has it's own chips in it. You walk up to a bank of Triple Diamond Machines.......they all look identical........but are they? NO! They each have their own reel chip in them and that is what determines how well the machine is going to pay back over the life of the machine. I am going to puke out some math here and try and keep it simple. IGT Triple Diamond 3 coin game with a 92.584% reel chip Top award TD TD TD (4000 coins) 1 in 93,312 chances of hitting each pull Second Best Awards TD TD 7 (2700 coins) 1 in 46,656 chances of hitting each pull TD 7 TD (2700 coins) 1 in 186,624 chances of hitting each pull 7 TD TD (2700 coins) 1 in 93,312 chances of hitting each pull Same game with a 97.417 % chip in it. The odds of hitting a top award in machine with a 92.584% chip are identical to the odds of hitting a top award in machine with a 97.417% chip in it. The lower awards tend to hit a little more often in the higher % chip. Although....not enough that the average person playing on a day out at the casino would ever notice. These numbers are what is expected......over the life of the machine which is figured at 10 million pulls. Summary: Which machine to play? Now I know, unless this is your first trip to particular casino, you have noticed things. Look for these things. A machine that always has a person at it.......is good sign. Casinos tend to put a few machines with higher paying chips in high traffic areas. These areas tend to be down major aisles and by the pay windows. That way.....more people see the wins.....and this encourages them to play more! No one knows for sure which machine to play. Anyone that tells you they do are full of it! I showed you above that no matter whether you play a 92% or 97% game.....the chances of hitting the top awards are the same. Astonomical! My theory.... 1. Take no more money than your are willing to loose! 2. Look for the "Old Faithfuls" and play them. 3. Hope that you are Lucky. It all boils down this. If you play the machine at the precise milli-second the machine's random number generator in on a winning combo......you win.......if not.....you lose! Hope this helps!

Overall the payback is better on slots than table games unfortunately it is based on 10mm spins. At worst a machine with a 85% chip can take is 15%.
Again because of the high spin to win ratio that might be 100% of your money and 2% of someone elses. The house hold on table games are above 20%..... |
