Default The Next Big Thing?

Over the last few years, we've seen a surge in the popularity of Poker and Blackjack.

But what's going to be the next gambling craze? Could it be Backgammon or one of the skill-based games?

Or maybe it'll be mobile gambling/mobile poker?

Anyone have any predictions?

I think blackjack has just started its growth curve. I don't know if it will ever match poker in popularity though.

Mobile gambling is going to continue to grow.

A lot of industry people are calling backgammon "the next poker", but I don't see it approaching the popularity of poker for a minute. It IS cool though, and I've enjoyed the skill game sites I've played on.

Poker is better television drama because it pits the players against one another.

Blackjack is you versus the dealer. It's you versus other people in building a bigger bankroll, but it isn't direct. That's one reason football is more dramatic than golf.

Slots would have the same problem, because it's the player versus the machine.

People love to see two players mouth at one another, then watch them stand up for the all-in river card. But I sure hope the other games find their niche.

If you see Hollywood Dave Stann versus Ken Smith smack talking each other, it sure SEEMS like they're competing head-to-head, but that might have just been because they have such contrasting personalities.

slots would have a bigger problem because it's man vs machine. there is really no contest either. not much in the line of decision-making points in a slots game.

at least in blackjack it's perceived that you're playing agasint another human, the dealer.

as for what's next. no idea. i'm not caught up with poker yet.

i did see espn try to introduce darts, but it didn't fly.
