LINCOLN, DELAWARE -- The first winner of the nation's first multistate progressive slot jackpot won the prize Sunday, July 30th at Lincoln Park.
The new Ca$hola game links slot machines at Lincoln and Newport Grand and slot facilities in Delaware and West Virginia. A portion of each dollar gambled at each machine is put toward a jackpot that can be won by gamblers in any state. The game started on July 18 and is coordinated by the Multi-State Lottery Association, a group of lotteries that runs Powerball. The chance of winning is about 1 in 7 million. Richard Keels, of Mattapan, Mass., hit that jackpot Sunday, according to the Rhode Island Lottery. The 20-year annuity was $708,558.20, but he chose to take the cash payout of $454,319. Higher jackpots are thought to entice more gamblers, creating more money for the slot parlor. The state takes about 60.5 percent of the slot revenues at Lincoln Park, $205.4 million last year.

Are the annuity paymets on those like the lotto payments - they stop if you die? Or are they payable to your estate and transferable to your heirs? I see a major trend for people taking half the prize now instead of taking the payments and getting the whole thing in the lotteries and I know that a lot of lottery winners seem to be old enough that they are possibly thinking they might not survive 20 years.

I'm betting that they stop if you die, but this might vary from state to state. Still, if I was a senior, I think I would take as much as I could get my hands on and then spend it like crazy. If my kids wanted some of the money, then they could go out and win their own darned lottery.
![]() Actually, I imagine I would be extremely generous with friends and family if I ever won the lottery.
