Elizabeth Taylor, who can hold a candle to her?

Im watching the news this morning and hearing the westborough church intends on protesting Elizabeth Taylors funeral because of her inspirational advocacy for gay rights. Disgusting. As I am watching I am realizing that alot of the real stars of Hollywood will be gone by the time my children are grown adults. Who will they remember as the great stars of Hollywood? I cant imagine. I know there are some amazing actors, but really...who can hold a candle to the true original stars of Hollywood?

Also a little side note. Elizabeth Taylor lived in the town I grew up in briefly while she was married to the Senator. Attached is a little link about my hometown. I am still only about 30 minutes from there and LOVE to go back and visit. Its beautiful!

There is not one! The old days of Hollywood are gone........never to be recreated, and thats a sad thing.

I agree. I love all the old stars of Hollywood. Women were statuesque, glamorous and men were... well, real men. I look at some of the stars today and I can't pinpoint the differences, but I think it's attitude. Obviously some are looking for the shock value of being in the public eye, and there's always dirty laundry being aired, even way back when... but something is missing.

I was just thinking of Dean Martin the other day as I watch videos of his new slots games coming out, and I thought to myself he is so much more of an icon than just a slot machine character. The man had real class. Maybe it's what Hollywood made them out to be that's different. No one really stands out to me these days as much as the oldies and I hate to see them go.

I agree. Today all the stars are about themselves. There is no camaraderie like there was just 20-30 years ago. There will never be another Elizabeth Taylor or a Dean Martin or a Frank Sinatra....................the list goes on and on.

Remember the Dean Martin Roasts on TV? Classic Hollywood of the era.

.... or a John Wayne! Why the heck they remade True Grit I'll never know. No disrespect to Beau Bridges, but John Wayne is THE Rooster Cogburn as far as I'm concerned. Elizabeth Taylor, definitely an unmatched icon.

Agree with you all. The so-called stars of today are nothing like the great stars we had in the past. The younger generation of today will never realize what they missed.

Taylor surely was one of the last of a dying breed. I love the glamour of old Hollywood, and not a single one of the actors/actresses out today have the same sort of allure. Now it seems like in order to be "famous" you need to have a "private" videotape leaked on the internet. Taylor was a class act, and even though she had her share of scandals, she was a remarkable woman, especially with her charity work.

As for that so called "church," they make me ill, all they want is media attention and have a vile way of getting it. Don't really wanna go past the "no religon talk" line, but these people are in no way shape or form religous, just sick and hateful.

Had a crush on Elizabeth Taylor when I saw her in National Velvet. I was about 10 or 12. There was no TV back then and movies, movie stars, and sports figures just seemed larger than life. Fortunately for me, DW came along ten years later and she was way more attractive than Ms Taylor.

Well here are my ramblings.

I agree with all that is said, but when you talk to an older generation they have their own thoughts on what Hollywood was, and what has been lost. When I visit with my gma she likes to watch the shows that she remembers, and talks about idols that she grew up watching.

So I believe the next generation will also have their own thoughts on it, and as they age and lose the icons that they are familiar with they will be saying the same thing that is being said today.

Although we may not agree with what is an Idol today, I am sure that the younger folks disagree with the loss of the what we may see as the greats.

Sure Hollywood had a heyday, but it will be different depending on the age group.
