Default NV bans cell phones while driving

FYI-Effective immediately, driving while using a handheld cell or texting in Nevada is illegal. The use of hands free cell phones are legal however. Warnings will be given until Jan 1 and then fines will be handed out.

I saw that, kind of surprised Nevada would pass that law considering they are usually pretty Libertarian on things.
I did see too that they changed their smoking law too, will allow smoking where food is served again effective immediately.

We have this law..for a very long time..(in Singapore)

    but..still we see some people...
"just don't bother" despite the penalty given..

hope they do not get caught!

    penalty of

    * Use of mobile telephone whilst driving.

Offender will be prosecuted in court, and may face a driving disqualification and forfeiture of handphone.

    In addition:

1st time offender- Fine not exceeding $1000.00 or jail sentence of up to 6 months or both.
2nd or subsequent conviction- Fine not exceeding $2000.00 or jail sentence of up to 12 months or both.

Oregon banned the use of cell phones while driving too. Didn't seem to make any difference. People just pay the fine and talk anyway. I don't. I'd rather pay attention to the road. If I need to talk I use my bluetooth, or GPS with bluetooth, or pull over. Luckily when work calls DH is usually driving. (Well, before he broke his arm.)

I wish they would enforce the law and charge more for the fines for California. (perhaps like singapore)

It seems to me that living in the Bay Area the law doesn't apply, I see at least every other car texting or talking on a handheld. shame...shame!

    Hope it works for Nevada.

I agree - I wish people would be more responsible. It's banned here as well, BUT over half of the drivers I pass on the road are on the phone.

If I had to pick and choose, I'd rather someone talk on the phone then looking at their phone to text.

Talking on a cell phone isn't much different to me than talking to a passenger in the car. It just boils down to some people shouldn't be behind the wheel no matter what!
    It is what it is.
