Update from Barbara about 11:30pm 5/17/2012...

Ethan is spending time with grandma. The school visit went well. His class and running club were preped before he came but we were in the halls when school let out and those kids were not. :-( some went right up to him and asked him about his Dad and the accident. I just told them we are not talking about that today. That seemed to work and Ethan kept it together.
Corbin was taken off the morphine drip and just has a button to push if he's in pain. He had to push it while playing video games since he was laughing so hard it made his eye hurt. Good old play therapy to keep your thoughts from wandering and muscles moving.

Caroline, just reading about Corbin laughing made me smile :-) God bless children, they are truly resilient. I'm sure Barbara has mixed feelings about when he comes home, happy to have him home again but anxious because the responsibility of his care will be on her! I'm sure with the strong support group she has, she will do fine. This thread is the first place I look each day for updates so thank you for keeping us up to date.

Caroline, been in and out of the forum because of work. Thanks to Deb who lets us know of your posting updates about the kids. I have not caught up but the last post truly made my heart happy knowing that Ethan & Corbin are now doing okay. I will keep you and your family in my prayer.

    Update from Barbara 9pm 5/17/2012

We are out of PICU!! Now all that's left is getting me and someone else trained to take care of him at home. Then once we are home we will still have to come back for physical, speech, and occupational therapy for Corbin as well as counseling for both boys.

    From earlier today......

Corbin has had the talking valve on for a few hours today. He is doing well with it. He asked what was in his mouth so I explained that he broke bones and it was wired shut. He says he doesn't remember the accident, so I knew I had to tell him about his Dad.
We both had a long cry and some big hugs.

I'm sure this was a hard thing for Barbara to do but now it's time for the healing to start. Such good news that Corbin is out of PICU!!! Baby steps, Caroline, and hopefully he'll be able to come home soon!!

Barbara now has the other person needed to learn how to take care of Corbin. He is another daughters, fiancee', brother's, girlfriend's, brother......say that 5 times fast! He just got out of EMT training and is perfect to learn how to care for Corbin when Barbara isn't there, plus this has to look good on a resume.

Downside to the training is they each have to change Corbin's Trachea tube 3 times to make sure they can do it. It only needs changed once a week but he is having to have it done 6 days in a row for the training. It hurts him when they change it. Corbin is progressing along with his physical therapy but it really drives home how much muscle is lost when one is inactive for many days. This once tough and active 5 year old looks so very weak and feeble. He is getting stronger though because he can now change his position in bed on his own and almost climb into the bed without help. Little steps but he is coming along.

Thank you again for all the prayers good thoughts and donations, they are so appreciated!

Update from Barbara evening of 5/20/2012

Pulled Corbin's g-tube out while trying to sit in uncle josh's lap. Stomach contents all over. Got a new one in and xrays taken to make sure in the right spot. Should know results before 5. Still no word on the trach problem. Grrrr
