How far is Reno from Lake Tahoe?
Is there a shuttle? (I'm trying to stay away from renting a car)

I am definitely there to gamble so Reno sounds like the place to go, but after hearing about and seeing the pictures for Lake Tahoe, I think I want to allocate a few days for there!

There is a shuttle at the Reno airport called South Tahoe Express. It costs around 45 dollars or so round trip. Tahoe is about 55 miles from Reno.

Tahoe is a definite must. BTW - if you stay at Harrah's Reno - I really like the West tower because it is easier to find everything. The layout is kind of confusing because the East Tower has a small casino with quite a few tables and a few slots but to get to the bigger casino and eateries you have to walk across the casino- take the escalator up (see the buffet) then take another escalator down back to the west casino.

El Dorado (across the street from Harrah's-sort of) has the best Friday nite seafood buffet that I have ever had.

I agree with all comments. I would advise to stay in Tahoe for a couple of nights and then head back to Reno. I would recommend to take a cruise of the lake on the Tahoe Star. You can get a discount with your players card and you can also reserve ahead of time, you wont regret it

Personally out of all 3 properties, I have done best at Harrah's Tahoe. They also send numerous offers even after 1 stay. I haven't gotten any offers after my Reno stay, but Tahoe offers have been non-stop. My money lasted a lot longer at the Tahoe properties than the Reno one. I liked Reno, but furniture was a little dated. Other than that, bed was comfy, room was clean and quiet, and food at the Hash House was awesome. Ridiculous portions. Staying in the West Tower is best, you don't have to go far from the elevators to food and casino. Reno is the best property to go to for a gambling trip with so many other casino's nearby.

I found Harrah's Tahoe rooms to be much better than Harvey's. It could be that I got an older room when I booked at Harvey's. I will continue to book on Harrah's side even when I don't need the second bathroom. And of course you just can't beat the view in Tahoe. CVS conveniently located nearby (right off the parking lot), so you can pick up anything there if you have forgotten something. We walked over to get snacks and drinks for the room and the drive home. Getting between the two properties is very easy, either walking across the street or using the underground tunnel. Either way you go, you should have a great time.
