With all the posts recently about Cherokee, I'll throw in my review and make a short story long.
I reserved a room at HC for one night on our return trip from Myrtle Beach, it was just me and my 13 yr old daughter and her friend. We arrived at 2:30pm Wed after a 6 hr drive from the beach. Left the stuff in the car and went inside. Saw the self check in kiosk right away, punched in my TR number, guessed at which room to take from the ones available (room 716) and it spit out the room keys. We got our stuff and meandered around and finally made it to the room, at the very end of the hall from the elevators. 2 queen beds, just like I reserved. We dumped our stuff because we were starving hungry and made a bee line to Johnny Rockets for some food.
Unfortunately, JR is on the casino floor and you couldn't get on the casino floor unless you were 21 (I'm used to Vegas). Buffet isn't open yet so we settled for a ham and egg thingy at the only cafe we could get to. Then drove into Cherokee to see the sights, pan for gold, and get a real dinner.
Got back to the room about 6:30 and I decided to head down to the casino to check it out for an hour or so. The girls started playing a game so I had them lock the door behind me and down I went. I paced 185 steps from the room to the elevator, just shy of the 220 I paced at the MGM Vegas. You must show a Total Rewards card to get into the casino, I flashed mine and took the escalator down. I found the Whales of Cash right away and stuck my players card in, only to realize that I brought my old Harrah's card and it wasn't working. Oh well, skip playing with a card and stroll through the casino. The casino is kinda long and winedy (sp?) and I finally made it to the back and found a 5 cent Black Knight. It wouldn't take my money and at this point I realized you must have a players card in the machine before it will take your bill. Meander all the way back to the front and up the escalator to get a new card. 3 minutes later I'm back in the casino floor with a new card.
Spotted 2 Timberwolf slots that I wanted to try but two ladies were playing them, come back to them later. Even though I had $500 on me, I decided to only risk $100 that evening with the M&G coming up next week, Vegas after that, word that this casino is tight, and cautious me in a new casino. I played some Red Baron, Zeus II, China Shores, etc before finally making it back to the .05 Black Knight. I lost $20 and was just about to walk away but I only needed 20 cents more for another tier credit so I stuck another $5 in it hoping I would get a little more play. Hit the bonus on min bet and had all the wilds stuck with 2 spins left. I ended up cashing out at $150.
I made my way back to Timberwolf only to find one lady spralled out playing both machines, no Timberwolf tonight. I ended up playing 5 reel Rawhide, which I find is great for racking up tier points and then cashed out. I'd been there for well over an hour, but I'd been checking up with my phone on them. I ended up even for the night and added another 90 tier credits to my TR so it shouldn't clobber my ADT too much.
The bed was great, but I had been sleeping on a sleeper sofa the previous 4 nights. We were packed and out the door at 8am the next morning. Did the self check out at the same kiosk and we were on our way.
I found HC to be very clean and the people I spoke to were very polite. I had no problems of any kind and would return there in a heartbeat if the chance arises in the future.
