Thread: Medical Question.

  1. #1

    Default Medical Question.

I know this is the last place to be posting this but I have to ask. First off, I have no heath insurance. I had a slight diabetic low today and i fell near in my pajamas, no shoes. I totally did something to my foot. I am trying to do some looking online about sprains and fractures. It seems possible that I have a fracture. Does anyone know anything about this in terms of how much will it cost to fix w/o insurance. I try typing the infomation in and I just get costs about dog bones and what now. My father(and mother though recently past away) is the one that has been paying for my insulan. I have no money and I was just about to do my third round of applications. I at one point had free health care in between finding jobs, but I don't now. I just need some infomation on 1. How much will it cost 2. What exactly is wrong 3. How long can i go without seeing someone. August 1st is my diabetic doctors appointment. 2 weeks before that is when I can go apply for free health care for the time being. Is there any way i could fix it myself? If it is just a sprain, can i help myself? sorry for this post, i just have to find some answers. My father would help me in a heartbeat but I know he doesn't have much left do to the insulan payments. I just hope anyone with medical knowledge can answer my questions. Thank-you for reading.

Not a doctor, but when I have a medical issue, since I have a large deductible, I call my doctor's office, describe the problem and ask them to tell me upfront what the diagnostic costs and treatment might run. Since I am not diabetic, I don't know if it's the same, but if I thought I had a sprain, I would stay off it, wrap and elevate it, plus apply ice (not directly). Aside from that, possibly ask your health care provider to recommend a place you can go for treatment if you are unable to pay. ?? Hopefully someone with medical knowledge can give you some info. Take care!

No medical knowledge, but I'm a 30 year old with diabetes. Feet are something you need to check out ASAP should you injure them. It's going to be pricey though. If you stop at an urgent care type center, they usually charge $100 just to sign in. X-rays can run a few hundred. And then you'll have the procedure costs. Not to scare you or anything.

I would look up online to see if there are any free clinics in your area. Most areas do have them. The wait may be long but being diabetic so many complications can arise and it would be better to be safe than sorry. Also, I do not know the area you are in but do you qualify for medicaid?

Check and see if there is a clinic in town that charges based on income. I know that there are many in the country that have federal grants to keep the costs down. they will charge something, but nothing close to what a normal office will charge.

Do you currently have any open sores or cracks on your feet and/or ankles?

This is what I am strongly suggesting... Because you are diabetic AND you have an injury to your foot... Seek out the nearest medical school! They offer free to low cost clinics. While the individual who will treat you will be a student doctor, rest assure that that student is being watched by hawk eyes.

Not to scare you...But foot issues + diabetes = potential significant repercussions.

Dr Veronica is right. My grandmother had a minor foot injury and it led to a leg amputation even though we went to the doctor right away. The injury did not heal because of her diabetes. I'm not saying this will happen in your case, but you need to have it looked at ASAP. Good luck.
You gotta hit it, quit it, and get out wit' it.

buck, go to the emergency room of the teaching hospital (public hospital, or whatever it is called in your area). This is not the time to be proud or to be worried about how you're going to pay for it. You can deal with that later, when you're healed. Better to have your foot and be able to work to pay the bill, rather than lose your foot. Sorry to be so blunt, but you need a wake up call, my friend.

Go now, as soon as you read this. Don't even think about it. You've thought about it for too long already. If you can't drive, call for an ambulance.

Go to the emergency room now.

I don't have any info about how much your care will cost but I certainly feel for you. I hope you're back to feeling better very soon.

call your local hospital and ask for a patient liaison. They can give you help with where to go, help you apply for medical aid, etc. When my brother had a perforated bowel and no health insurance, the liaison was a godsend. if they don't have one, try to apply for something like Welfare. Actually its not welfare, but it helps out the low income (usually men) with no job and no insurance. You may qualify. and I'm a diabetic, so i know that you should take care of your feet.

(at least this is how it was in CA)
Why be difficult, when with just a little effort, you can be completely impossible?
