Default What do you think of perceived "Skill-based Games" ...?

    Hi Folks:

I recently had a chance to play Bally's Skeeball ... and Fish'n For Loot (and there are more). From the best I can tell -- you can get into a skill-based game ... but the skill has nothing to do with how much money you are going to win. In essence, it is a mini-video game inside a slot.

Does this kind of game appeal to you. I'll have the Skeeball one up shortly. I just wanted to get your thoughts.

I think I saw slot prototypes using an "Asteroids", "Centapede", and "Space Invaders" bonus round games (when I think I was with you, Shamus) which have this perceived skill level in order to think you are gaining an advantage playing the "skill game" well. I also believe the current Aruze Paradise Fishing Mega Top Board Aquarium video screen has a fishing rod handle that gives the fell of catching fish and being awarded credits based on a perceived ability of having the handle in the players control. I believe we will see more of these kind of games as competition for new ideas tries to capture market share.

Eh, this would only interest me if the player's play dictated how much he/she could win. Otherwise, this is the same as a predetermined pick'em jackpot bonus. Will this keep anyone's interest once the newness wears off? I don't know....

I guess it depends for me anyways, like says the Huge screen Leprechaun game if the outcome was based off of actual physics and not just where it wanted to stop. Same as the U-Spin Bonuses I want the wheels to stop based off how I spin them. I wish there was more skill based games out there. We have a community fishing one at our local and the fiance' had a decent amount of luck on it "bobing" the pole.

Me thinks if the PB% is 88% you might be able to skillfully get it up to 88.01

I will not play these if I know what they are. I can't hit a baseball, shoot a hoop or 1 putt, so why would I want to prove I suck playing a skill game? Random luck or an exploitable progressive is the only chance I have.
His name is Corneilous and he invented long division.
    Lines? Who needs lines?

    Hi slotspert:

Jacques says "hi" by the way ... heh heh.

I was under the impression that the IGT games were REAL games of skill -- where the amount you won was actually tied (at least in part) to your skill with the game.

In the Bally games -- you are actually going "hand/eye coordination" type skills -- but they have no impact on what you actually win.

I was suprised to hear from Coushatta that Paradise Fishing was still a strong title. I honestly, have never tried it myself. I do not have that game available locally.

I'll be honest -- I am an arcade generation kid -- and the IGT games do not appeal to me at all. The Bally games were interesting -- but I couldn't really see the pay potential -- just a lot of medium small hits.

I'll compile a bunch of SKEEBALL video so everyone can take a look at it. I think this is an interesting conversation. I hope we hear more voices on this one.

    Hi onenickelmiracle ...

In this case -- you can gutter all the skeeballs -- and stil get a good prize with your one ticket ... so, it's kinda like playing a mini video game as part of the slotting experience.
