Went to Vegas with the mrs to get away for a while and to celebrate my birthday. Had a blast as always! We had room comps at Main Street downtown and the Palms and took advantage of 4 free buffets, gifts, and slot play at the M. We lost this trip, but enjoyed it all the same. I'm not prepared for a day by day, play by play type of TR, but I have lots of thoughts, pics, and vids to share, so we'll break it out like this:
Best slot hits and vids I will post in the Tales from Winners section here:
http://www.slotmachinesforum.com/sho...ts-of-the-Trip
Best near misses I will upload to my "best near misses" post, here:
http://www.slotmachinesforum.com/sho...t-near-misses!
And gambling, food, and other observations and pics will be in this thread.
Gaming
Played at Main Street, The Cal, Binions, M, Palazzo, Tuscany, and the Palms.
Video Poker - VP was a big letdown for me this trip. Any serious VP player knows that its the quads that will make or break you in VP, and I was very quad-poor this trip. Never hit a premium quad in full pay Double Double Bonus or Deuces Wild over many thousands of hands. Also could not hit that elusive Royal despite multiple near misses. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes with VP especially with the higher volatility versions, the variance can be a killer. It's still the best value gambling play available if you play the full pay positive expecation machines like Deuces and DDB.
Star Trek - I'm seeing less and less of these, which is a shame. Still available at Palazzo, Palms, and Tuscany. At Tuscany, I noticed that the final episode, "Mirror, Mirror" was available. Started playing that but did not do well on line hits or the bonus rounds, which seemed somewhat flat without strong potential for a large win. Switched back to my favorite "Live Long and Prosper" episode, and it did not disappoint in the bonus round which retriggered once leading to about 10 spins with a 10x multiplier. I've got a vid of that one that one posted in the TFW section.
WOZ Yellow Brick Road - Ha, this slot is my ongoing nemesis. Over multiple trips I think I've bonused on this machine at least 6 times. Of those, only ONCE have I made it to the first character with all other bonuses yielding zero to one winning spin. I've seen others make it to the emerald city for a huge win, but I can't even get started on this one. Anyone else have this experience or am I just incredibly unlucky on this machine? Every trip I see it, I have to at least try it just to see if I can break the curse, but the streak remains intact!
Wicked Winnings II - I'm still addicted to this one. Late one night at Binions I decided to play the last hundred of my bankroll on WWII and experienced my first "last ditch bankroll saver" of the trip when I hit 18x 3 ravens, some moneybags, and then 10s in a respin, with only a dollar and change remaining in the daily bankroll. Boy that sure feels good when you're down to your last dollar and you hit for $280!
Reels - I gave reels a good amount of play this trip, something I don't normally do. Played a lot of dollar slots, some quarters, and even took a few shots at a 5 dollar machine. I got to spin quite a few times in WOF and the top dollar bonus, but never hit anything over $50 in the bonuses. My best hit came at Palazzo playing dollar WOF when I hit for a 5x pay mixed 7s for $200.
Buffalo - Finally hit for the 5 buffalo's this time! Now I can join the club!
Super Nova Blast - fun but volatile. Have a good vid of this one posted.
Tables - I tend not to play the tables too often, as I find blackjack boring. The one game I will play once or twice a trip is Crazy4Poker. Took a Hundred to the table but lost lost lost! It was here I experienced my second bankroll saver of the trip. On my last hand of i was dealt a pair of Kings, unfortunately the dealer got a straight to seal my C4P loss. However, the Kings got me $10 back for the pair plus, so I was left with $10 out of my original hundred. What to do....I know, 17 and 29 on roulette. And what do you know, 17!!!! Yea, nice $175 winner!
Food
M buffet - this is always great. Really nice variety and good quality food; we think its the best in Vegas alongside the Wynn buffet (but M sends us free buffet comps!).
Cut - ate at Cut at the Palazzo. Steak Tartar was excellent! American Waygu NY strip was mighty tasty as well. Good meal and gave us a chance to play a bit at the Palazzo. Maybe we'll finally get a comp there?Pics of meal below.
L'Atelier at MGM - Years ago we had a fabulous meal at Joel Robuchon at the Mansion. This trip we decided to try his more casual restaurant, Le A'telier. We sat at the counter where you can see all the action. We both had the seasonal tasting menu which was excellent. Also a good meal. Many pics below.
Raku - Went to Raku again and it was great as always. One of the best values available if you order correctly. Really nice, loved the robata chicken wings and kobe beef tendon. Pics below.
Also ate at Main St bufffet (comp), Tuscany cantina (carnitas were not as good this trip!), and Sushi Loca. All decent/solid.
Other
Had some VIP passes to the Ghost Bar and the Playboy Club at the Palms, so had to check it out. Went early on a Thursday night so both were pretty empty. Should have gone the night before after the MMA award show let out, but wasn't in the agenda. Good potential but really not our scene. Here's a few pics of the view from the Ghost Bar.
That's it for TR#3, hope you enjoyed it!
