Hi Folks:
So many times, we get going down the casino conspiracy path. The machines are rigged, tightened, moved ... the casinos know about wins before the player ... the slot attendants can tell you the machines that pay. Of course, there are usually kernals of truth buried in these stories ... but it is just stories. However, it takes no time for a group of people to jump into the conspiracy theories -- even when they read the facts of how slots work. Why are so many people ready to beleive in Slot "Voo Doo"? It seems this is more appealing than just understanding the facts. /\/\/\/\ the Shamus /\/\/\/\ |

The only factual thing that someone could tell you at the casino though is if there was a machine that was set at a higher average payout, and even then its still just luck. |

Whether set at 85% or 98% you couldn't tell unless you were there for all 10,000,000 pulls. In fact some of the lower paying %'s have better hit frequencies than higher %'s. And on the games with the high multipliers (10X, 12X, 50X, 100X) they really have to set them a little higher so they'll hit every once in awhile to keep player interest. And FYI, all the wide area progressives like WOF and Elvis have the worst returns, most of them max out around 91% or 92% with a majority being set in the mid 80's.

I still look for those where ever I go. I agree with you on the progressive those are the machines you should play a 20 in and keep moving.

I'm not particularly superstitious about slots. My hubby won't play a machine unless it "calls" to him (I always say "What does it call you?"
). And that's just one of the things he goes by to determine a "good" machine. I'm more the opposite, kinda toward Shamus' point of view. I try to treat every spin as a separate event (learned that from the video.. thanks, Deb!), and try to remember that if I feel like cashing out, I don't need to feel like I'm missing out on a big hit if I do. However, I do have my "rituals," but that's not really to coax my machine; it just gets me comfy there. Last edited by ChellesBelles; 02-10-2010 at 03:53 AM. Reason: typos typos everywhere! |

It turns out that a few % points can make a significant difference in the player's total play time. You do not need 10,000,000 spins to notice your slot sessions over he months are lasting 2 hours instead of 4. This 10M number is quoted to ensure the theoretical payback percentage is correct right to the tenth of a percentage. A few extra $10K wins can be statistically "buried" in 10 million spins. /\/\/\/\ the Shamus /\/\/\/\ |
