Default Not so smart things casino employees say

I have been told some things that I would never repeat. But heres one that a security guard said right in front of a officially looking guy in a suit with walkie talkie in hand. I walk up to this employee in a suit, he looks like a person to complain to, so I was telling him my opinion on not enough quarter machines in the casino and the new casino was due to open in a few weeks and I was discussing what reels the new one would offer, and I hoped that I would have decent choices, during this conversation this security guard had walked up and was listening, and when I said I perfer reels mostly over videos, the guard says " I would trust those reel slots a lot more then those videos any day" those videos are all computers he goes on to say. oops, the guy I was talking to just got a blank look on his face, So I tried to smooth it over for the security guard and I said oh well they all all computers. you know, I just perfer the reels I was just trying to get the point across that what he just said wasen't going to affect my play, so no harm done. I wonder what was said after I left though

I always wonder what the casino employees really know. I don't think security would know much more than we do, the slot managers would be the only ones that really know which machines are set to pay out more. However, with all the hours they spend walking around on the floor they see what pays out often and over time would have a good idea of the machines that may have slightly better odds. I have a friend that works at Casino Arizona, they are not allowed to share much info, but did tell me certain banks of machines that seem to pay out often. All of the better paying ones were reel slots.

Well I will tell you that about 10 minutes after I won my $2500 on quarter Jeopardy at River Palms in Laughlin, I asked the tech who paid me out (who was with the security guard at the time..." Okay so since I am on a roll what else around here pays?" He said "Oh those 10x pay machines along the wall are good ones" so I go over there and put in 3 dollars ( max bet ) and my first pull I win $500!!!!! They may know more than we even would ever suspect!!! The security guard came over to me and said jokingly " if this continues, we are going to have to throw you out" lmao

Let me tell you they (all) know more than you think. My first hand pay ever at the AC Sands just happen to occur while one of the floor staff stood there and watched as if they knew. I notice one thing about the areas around our Pa casino is that more floor staff are in the reel area (including the .25) then the penny of video games.

Now whether they know exactly what machine will pay is still a mystery, I think it all stems from the amount of larger pays given out by those specific machines. If I was told about a specific set of machines that were paying out that way I would be living in that area. Again it is well known that reel machines especially those in the higher denominations will always pay more than any .01, .02 and .05 machine.

the reels always did better for me, and if they do have server based, I don't think reels are linked to that. But I don't know that for sure, a question for coushattaslots

Just about any game made in the last couple of years can be connected to a server (and someday will be) but at this point (in my opinion) it would be rare. Probably Aria would be the only one doing that at this point. Most SBG installs represent a minority of the equipment on the floor. Aria however has a majority.

The reason it isn't common now (for reels to be connected) is that IGT gives you access to a large library of games for your SBG package. You can pick and choose what games to put down to the actual slot machine. Since you can't easily do that with a mechanical reel game, there isn't much point of connecting to a server. In the future, when it becomes more widespread, they'll all be connected. Software updates such as bill validator upgrades (needed when a new bill comes out) will be flashed down to the floor to all games in one fell swoop, versus now where we have to do each one separately. So, on a mechanical reel, at some point, they will "flash" the new game (via the server)to the slot machine, but the tech will still have to physically replace the reel strips.

At the risk of offending some, or bursting bubbles....

I do think slot attendants can tell you which games they've seen payout, especially if they've personally done the hand pays, but I don't think you will gain any value from this information. They often don't realize how much a player has put in before getting the big hit or handpay. Big hits stand out in their minds, but what about the lack of them in-between? If they had the inside track they'd take their paychecks and have their relatives play the machines all day long. Like the disclaimers for all stocks, "past performance does not indicate future performance". Reminds me of my customers who (in the coin days) used to look into the the slot machines down into the hopper which could be viewed (barely) through the reel glass. They'd look to see if the hopper was full or empty. Unfortunately this meant nothing, but some of my customers believed otherwise. Some thought if the hopper was full it was going to payout soon while others felt that an empty hopper meant it was in a paying cycle and would continue paying out.

Deb's 10X pay example is a good case in point. A very volatile game. If you get a 10X and anything it's going to be good. But you can go for long streches without a win. Some people like game math like that, some don't.

If non-slot manager employees at a casino would know the best payouts, would Yads be writing about her bankroll-eating trips? Even at the very casino that she's working?

On the other hand though, even if you know the best paying machine at a casino (say 99% payout, which is great), you can still lose it all there, due to volatility. 99% payout will have its 20% sessions as well as the 178% sessions.

Yads, feel free to chime in, but I think the information seems to be pretty tightly kept within a very small group of employees, who directly work in slot management.

While working at the Mirage, I would sit for my whole shift..in the pits (table games) and watch people play slots..night after night but I also, could not help notice certain machines that always seem to be paying. Then, I would also note, the winning machines would be moved or changed in some way..and thus not winning any longer.
But, I do still wonder about MY very first win in Las Vegas...it was Keno (slot)..I won $400 didn't even know what to do, as it was my first time, I sat there a couple of min's and a gentleman came to me, said congratulations..I said "thanks, I was wondering if anyone even knew that I had hit" and he said...and I quote "WE KNEW BEFORE YOU DID"...now..this was in the early 80's at the Sands...confusing

Default Well.

I don't always play the games I should...I'm a bad Yad. I get sucked into the entertainment of it.

But those guys won't spill it, either.
And I'm *good* at gathering intel, mutter.

However, if I go to the rival casino up the road, I can wander about and watch what THEY play after work.

I made several hundred piggybacking some of them one time.

I'm sure it was just luck.
