I was just wondering. The casinos seem to devote lots of space and advertising to them. It just seems to me that if you were going to play $2 or $3 max bet that you would play something with better odds and better return. You could max bet on a dollar machine for $3 and win alot more.

I like them because I don't lose money as quickly.
You can max out all the options and pay lines and you're more likely to "hit" something, even if at the end of the day you lose the same amount of money. It gives longer entertainment value. That's my opinion. I don't expect to make money at any slots. If I win anything at all, it's a bonus. But if my allotted betting money disappears in a few minutes, then I feel pretty lousy. If it lasts a while I feel better about it. |

I believe the penny slots are the most popular to players because players can sit and play for a long time, without spending a large amount of money.
They are favorites to the casinos because they have the least payout percentage of all denominations--so the casinos can make a lot of money on them. The smaller the denomination, the less payout percentage. Ricky |

I love the penny slots. Win or lose, it's a great way to pass the time and not go broke doing it.

Hi Folks: I thought it would be fun to comment on this post which started more than a year ago. The low denomination slots now rule the casinos. The casinos love them, because they are the most profitable. Although, the initial postings said people like them because they can play longer, I no longer think this is the case. Many penny machines have 30, 50 or 100 lines ... so the total bet is as least as much as a quarter, or perhaps a dollar machine. Last night, I noticed lots of people playing low denom machines at $3 a pop (spin). I think people like the excitement of 30 lines of action. It compiles the fun of 30 spins on a single line machine, into one spin. It's a powerful idea ... and I think that is where the popularity comes from. It adds up to volitility (you get a lousy spin, and there is little or no payback ... if you get an excellent spin, you get high paybacks on multiple lines). /\/\/\/\ the Shamus /\/\/\/\ |

In two words, my answer is Bonus Rounds. I used to play nothing but nickel and quarter slots a good 5 years ago. However, I've found penny slots have bonuses and I only really play for the bonus rounds. If a game doesn't have a bonus round I am unlikely to play it. Many quarter games only have a bonus like the Wheel Of Fortune or some other wheel that spins and you can win. For me, thats okay but not that interesting and many times you put 100 coins in and if you get to spin you win something like 25 or 40 coins what a rip off.
With penny slots, you can pick things to determine what you win like with Super Jackpot Party or Goldfish. Also, penny slots offer FREE SPINS. Free spins from 8 with a game like Tiki Torch to 50 with a game like Sun Moon to 100 with American Original. If you only invest $.25 to $.50 cents but win $5 or more during the bonus round people are more willing to play them. Also, as already mentioned, there are many ways to win which adds to the excitement. |
